Our Star is a devoted State Attorney. With nearly three solid decades of legal practice, our Star has lived and continuously to live a glowing life in the law in her specialised area of prosecutorial work for the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice (A-G). Our Star is a mentor. She has nurtured and guided many a young lawyer to warm their way into full time legal practice and careers at offices of State Lawyers.
Our Star for over a decade, since April 2015 has been the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice. Under her watch, prosecutions from the A-G gained a renewed vivacity and approach by State Attorneys to criminal proceedings. As part of her duties as Director of Prosecutions our Star supervises Attorneys at the regional offices of the A-G on criminal cases through reports from Regional Heads of the A-G.
Prior to assuming the position of Director of Public Prosecutions in April 2015, our Star served as the Head of the International Cooperation Unit of the Ministry of Justice from January 2010 to April 2015 where she had oversight responsibility over all international cooperation matters including Mutual Legal Assistance, Extradition and Prisoner Transfer matters on behalf of the State.
Our Star has prosecuted several high profile cases including landmark cases on corruption and white collar crimes. She has spoken at various fora across the globe on transnational organised crime and its peculiar challenges to developing countries and the response of the criminal justice sector to these crimes. Our Star has served as a Government Expert for United Nations Convention Against Corruption in 2016 on the team of experts that assessed the Central African Republic as well as an Assessor and expert for the Intergovernmental Agency against Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (GIABA).
In 2010, our Star was the government’s expert on the team of Assessors that reviewed the Republic of Liberia’s compliance to the FATF recommendations. She also serves on the Cybercrime Convention Committee (T-CY) of the Council of Europe for the effective use and implementation of the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime.
Away from the Chambers of the A-G, our Star trains law students in Criminal Procedure at the Ghana School of Law. The Law Platform proudly celerates the hardworking, energetic, diligent, humble and long-serving legal officer of the State, the respected Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa Esq.
